In-Grid‘s message is simple and clear: White shirts, for women, made in England. White shirts are without a doubt one of the most essential and versatile pieces of clothing a woman could own. They focus on quality, craftsmanship and effortless elegance.
Tell us about how in-grid came to be.
The idea of in-grid started a long time ago when we were first dating although not consciously. Adam and I would talk about the importance of good design, reference points and opinions. This quickly developed from sketches to samples, samples to wearable products and products to a brand. At that point in-grid was born, as a result of a thorough design process. After a process of designing and re-designing white shirts became a platform enabling us to design detail driven, sculptural garments.
What is the main philosophy and main inspiration behind in-grid and the woman you design for?
As designers we aim to create beautiful yet wearable white shirts, for women, made in England. When designing white shirts we design for every woman. The white shirt is a garment that transcends age and body shape, you just need to find the perfect style for you.
We balance aesthetics and functionality by a necessity to create a well balanced garment.
How do you balance aesthetic and functionality in your shirts?
We balance aesthetics and functionality by a necessity to create a well balanced garment. This is a minimum requirement for an in-grid product. All shirts must be hard wearing, functional, well constructed, with a focus on form, cut, and finish.
The white shirt is a garment that transcends age and body shape, you just need to find the perfect style for you.
Would you describe fashion as a language?
Absolutely! It would be absurd to suggest otherwise… That is part of the beauty of getting dressed in the morning. It is another opportunity to express yourself and by extension say something to others, that requires no words.
Whats the biggest lesson you’ve learn’t since you started in-grid studio?
Division of labour and trust!
